Purpose: The purpose of this study is to assess the awareness of students of various healthcare professions (nursing students, nurse practitioner students) regarding physician assistant (PA) education and role as part of the health care team. The absence of knowledge of other health care providers about the physician assistant profession may stem from their lack of exposure to the interdisciplinary healthcare team during their formal education. There is an expanded need for multidisciplinary teams in health care in order to best address all aspects of patient care. This need has encouraged medical and other professional schools to integrate interdisciplinary education into their curriculums. There is a void in the literature regarding the knowledge of other health care students about the physician assistant profession, including the education and capabilities of the physician assistant as part of the health care team. This study will investigate the knowledge of students of various health professions, in order to determine if they are educated regarding physician assistants and their role as part of the healthcare team. ...
